Julie consistently provides safe, high-quality care that is focused on her patients. She follows the policies and procedures, protocols, and standards of care. Even with all of her years of experience, she demonstrates an eagerness to learn!
If we were to sit down and think of all of the changes that have occurred within healthcare and nursing over the last 41 years, we would be amazed! From the AIDS/HIV epidemic, Ebola, Swine Flu, COVID pandemic to transitioning from paper charting to electronic documentation; the adoption of the Affordable Care Act to including pain as the 5th vital sign; from nurses wearing all white with pristine nursing caps to nurses wearing a variety of colors and shoes…the changes, both small and great, seem endless. So, to have someone who has been dedicated to the field and has experienced all of these changes is nothing short of amazing and awe-inspiring! Julie Burch, RN, has experienced all of these and so much more in her 41-year tenure within the nursing field and as an employee of Piedmont Healthcare. And to know that she is still as committed to learning and growing speaks to her commitment to her profession!
Julie currently works night shift on 2North and is a model employee! She consistently provides safe, high-quality care that is focused on her patients. She follows the policies and procedures, protocols, and standards of care. Even with all of her years of experience, she demonstrates an eagerness to learn! She never shrugs off her learning opportunities or uses her years of experience as an excuse to not take a class or learning opportunity. In fact, she often asks the most questions and seeks ways to incorporate her learning into her daily practice and workflow.
Julie clearly demonstrates Piedmont's Purpose, Vision, and Values each time that she is at work and even beyond the walls of work. She is focused on doing the right thing for her patients with each and every contact. She is an advocate for her patients, and her skills and confidence do not go unnoticed by her patients, their families, or her team members. In a previous DAISY nomination that she received, the patient stated that Julie “exuded compassion and patience and everything you hope a nurse will be in a stressful time and unfamiliar place.” Another nomination read that “she should teach a class to the staff about patient care because she was exceptional.” Julie is a living example of the Piedmont Values and consistently demonstrates the Piedmont Way in all of her encounters. She is a true asset to our team, and her input and feedback are appreciated by her team members and the leadership team! She is willing to precept new team members, imparting her knowledge and experiences to them.
As previously stated, Julie truly sets the standards for what I hope all of our team members can grow and progress toward. Her longevity in this profession is a true demonstration of her commitment to her patients and continuing to learn and grow. Again, Julie is a true asset to our team, and we are fortunate to have her continue to work with us. I hope that we have more years with her in the future! She is inspiring to me as a nurse, and I hope that I can make a positive impact just as she has.
