Professor Overcash is an excellent person, educator, and nurse. Professor Overcash teaches in J2, the notoriously difficult semester of the nursing program at UNC Charlotte. Despite students feeling overwhelmed and stressed, Professor Overcash ensures that they know they are loved, capable, and heard. She spent her time in class not only making us more knowledgeable in her area of expertise but also providing students with the ability to become the best version of themselves. She took the time to create social medias to connect with us and teach us on a platform we are used to, she checks up on us individually frequently, and pushed us to grow as nurses, students, and better humans.

Personally, Professor Overcash has served as a mentor, professor, and point of guidance. As a male wanting to pursue women's health nursing, I have many questions and reserves in my role within the specialty. Professor Overcash cheered me on, helped me find resources, and made sure I did not give up on my goal. I am now starting as a labor and delivery nurse and starting my doctorate degree in Midwifery thanks to her and her support. She has served as a mentor for graduate school applications, navigating the workplace, and as an advisor for academics and my research project. I would not be where I am without her, and I am eternally grateful for her. She embodies what the DAISY Award stands for.
