I am so very grateful for the compassionate and professional care I received from nurse Jordann, pre-op. I am a retired RN, and I suffer from PTSD related to traumatic hospitalizations and a near-death experience from 40 years ago and I never know when it will reappear. While being prepared for surgery, tears suddenly began streaming down my face and I began feeling like I wanted to quickly get off of the stretcher. I shared with Jordann my story and she immediately, in a calm compassionate manner, brought a warm blanket and asked what she could do to help remedy my panic attack. Simple things such as turning the sound off of monitors, dimming the lights, and contacting the Anesthesiologist were so helpful! In the past, I had been ridiculed and told I was crazy by both MDs and RNs when my PTSD symptoms presented. Jordann's calm comforting manner and her attention were phenomenal- I don't think I could have gotten through the panic without her. I was able, for the first time, to concentrate on my breathing to calm down somewhat before receiving a sedative. What a difference she made! Also, I have hypermobile Ehler's Danlos Syndrome where joints throughout my entire body sublux (partially or entirely dislocate). I've encountered injuries during surgical procedures where in particular my hip has rotated causing ruptures of tendons and muscle tears. Jordann understood this complexity and in speaking with both my surgeon and anesthesiologist, I was able to wear my hip support during surgery! RN Jordann made this entire outpatient surgery experience the best of my life! Being able to feel confident in my care and relaxed made a huge difference in my post-op recovery. I can't over-emphasize what a difference RN Jordann made and I am so ever grateful to have a nurse like her! I proudly nominate her for a well-deserved DAISY Award.
