Molly Barufaldi demonstrates collaborative working relationships, exemplifies nursing excellence as a role model for other staff, nurses, and the nursing profession. Molly models empathy and demonstrates a caring attitude in all situations. Molly significantly "made a difference" in the life of the individual being cared for and I wanted to share the story. There was a client staying in Women's Residential who had pretty significant cognitive impairment, years of trauma, and several medical issues going on. As a Residential Instructor at the time, during one of Molly's early nights at the Center, I had exhausted every effort to put this client's mind at ease regarding her multiple anxieties. Exasperated, I called the detox unit for some guidance and Molly arrived shortly thereafter. Molly sat with the client and I for about 45 minutes, answering every question, redirecting like an absolute boss, and assisting with a phone call to the clients pharmacy after the first attempt had ended with an angry pharmacist and a crying client. One of Molly's most endearing qualities is her ability to listen; she has a special knack for letting someone speak without interruption and offering silent comfort with her giant bright blue eyes and concerned expression. Those attributes brought this near hysterical client back to center enough that she could complete her phone call to the pharmacy without incident & feel calm & reassured enough to return to her room, which may not sound like much; but based on how she'd presented initially, was a downright miracle in my eyes. The patience, consistency, and kindness I witnessed within Molly's nursing technique during that interaction have remained with me throughout my time here at Farnum. This is only one of the many occasions in which I was both humbled and awed by Molly's gift for nursing. I called on her so many times for help with a client- or even guidance for myself regarding medications, taking vitals or how to go about assisting a struggling client- and every single time she responded with a readiness to help and a comforting aura that made things seem instantly not-so-dire for both employee and client. She is someone I look up to as both a nurse and a friend. As an aspiring nurse myself, this girl is nothing less than a hero to me. The epitome of what a successful nurse should be. A shining role model and stellar human. Every organization should have a Nurse Molly.
