Joe exemplifies the true meaning of being a Nurse Leader. He shows professionalism, kindness, knowledge, patience, and compassion, not just for his team members but for the patients that are under his care. Joe has a strong desire to always do the right thing. This includes seeking out more staff for when we are experiencing high volume census or high acuity patients requiring 1:1 care. When tasks are overwhelming, it takes strong leadership and vision to break those tasks into manageable understandings. Joe is the Nurse manager of 2 extremely successful and busy units within our Hospital, and this definitely qualifies as overwhelming. He takes his time to review schedules and requests to accommodate the work-life balance of his team members. He supports his team members by giving them tremendous encouragement and support when they return to school or when studying to take a certification exam. He is always thinking of others by bringing in new food dishes for his team members to try. He includes everyone by offering them snacks from his snack pile in his office, which has the nickname "Joedega." He makes everyone feel welcome, and working with him feels like it's your extended family. What Joe does every day makes a difference, not just for his team members but for the patients who receive the best care from his team members. Through Joe's kindness, guidance, and compassion, his team flourishes in ways they could not imagine, showcasing their talents to bring out the best in them.
