My mother developed a strong bond with her and vice versa. Erica came to say goodbye, and they hugged and had a lengthy conversation.
Our 90-year-old mother came to the hospital ER by ambulance. She is from Watertown but was staying in Maynard at her daughter's house for the night. We wanted to take her to Mt. Auburn Hospital where her records and doctors are, but the ambulance was not able to honor our request. After a few hours in the emergency room, mom was moved to the 6th floor. She had many very kind, patient nurses, but the one that stands out most was Erica House. My mother is a very unique individual. She was born in Jerusalem and although she is a US citizen for over 60 years, still has old fashioned thoughts and slowly declining cognitively. Erica stopped and would listen to her sometimes crazy stories, which made her feel respected, important, and loved. Erica made us feel like we were her only patient and family on that floor. My mother developed a strong bond with her and vice versa. Erica came to say goodbye, and they hugged and had a lengthy conversation. Erica was never in a hurry to leave when her shift was over and always made sure the next nurse taking over was a perfect fit for my mother. Erica's kind, compassionate personality should be honored!
