When my son was extubated, he expressed his gratitude to Emily and asked her for a hug, which she very kindly agreed to.
My son was admitted to Critical Care and intubated after I left the hospital. The next morning, I called and spoke with Emily. She was very knowledgeable and kind. I later visited the hospital, and it wasn't long before Emily came in and introduced herself. She asked me if I needed anything, such as water, juice, or a snack. She made it very clear that getting me something would never be a bother, and she was happy to do it. Emily always had a pleasant look on her face, and she never treated me like I was in the way by spending the day with my son.
On the day my son was extubated, Emily was phenomenal as she had been the entire time. She explained everything to me that was going to happen that day, and she also explained every step of what was happening and why. When my son was extubated, he expressed his gratitude to Emily and asked her for a hug, which she very kindly agreed to. Emily is a wonderful asset to Mayo. Emily really went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable, as well as showing compassion and respect in everything she did. I cannot thank her enough or express how much her words and actions made a difficult time a bit easier for us. She truly deserves the DAISY Award.
