Recently, the Cheyenne VA was notified of a local skilled nursing facility needing to evacuate its residents. The amazing team of nurse practitioners, NODs, nurses, and nursing assistants came together to make an extraordinary feat happen in a matter of minutes. The decision to evacuate the facility was not made until late in the day, which placed the C-Ward team at a disadvantage due to being a weekend and going into the night shift. The team on this day did not see this as an obstacle and operated as though they were fully staffed midday during typical business hours. Not a single member of this team complained as they quickly prepped several rooms to accommodate the needs of Veterans in our community. This amazing team was able to take seven admissions within just an hour. This number of admissions in such a short amount of time should have pushed the very limits of what our organization is capable of managing, yet this team made it appear as if it was just an average day on the unit. The teamwork shown by this group and the compassion given to our community is a true example of the quality of staff employed at the Cheyenne VA. Not only did this group accomplish such a challenging task, they reported the next day how smoothly it all went and had no recommendations for changes. It is moments like these that allow all employees to hold their heads high and proudly say they work at the Cheyenne VA.
