She cared for the patient with so much passion and knowledge but was also so kind and caring.
I was working as a nurse on the floor with a Midland University student when another patient had a Rapid Response called on them. As the charge nurse, Lexi grabbed my student and took her to the rapid response so that the student could learn what was going on. During this time, the student watched central line placement, vasopressor initiation, BiPap initiation, and more. The student returned to me after this experience and verbalized how kind and caring Lexi was. The student said, "Lexi had the soft, kind-hearted eyes but also had the skillset and knowhow to get stuff done." Later on in the day, Lexi assisted the primary nurse and respiratory therapist down to CT with the same patient. Lexi saw my student and grabbed her, saying that it would be an awesome learning experience for her. Then, she took the patient under her wing. The student went down to CT with Lexi and the patient. While in CT, the patient began to code, and the team was assembled. The student was able to witness and watch the whole thing. Upon returning to the unit, I pulled the student aside to ask if she was okay if she needed to debrief, etc. The student responded saying, "I'm feeling fantastic. Lexi was with me the entire time and made sure I was okay. She cared for the patient with so much passion and knowledge but was also so kind and caring. She never looked scared or frantic but also never showed the patient that things were not looking good. Lexi made sure that I was okay, talking with me after and I hope I can be like her someday."
