Rosana called for more help reclined the seat, and started CPR while the patient was still in the car until the rest of her team arrived.
She demonstrated quick thinking began CPR on a cardiac arrest patient that arrived to our department at the front of “X” entrance. The patient was brought to our department by their significant other and was conscious and awake when they started the short journey from their home in Aptos, CA. During the transport the patient became unresponsive. Rosana responded when assistance was called for by the Triage Nurse. She immediately recognized what was going on and what needed to be done. She called for more help reclined the seat, and started CPR while the patient was still in the car until the rest of her team arrived. Once the patient was lifted onto the gurney, she promptly jumped up on the gurney and straddled the patient in order to continue good CPR. The patient was wheeled through the department and arrived at our resuscitation room. She continued the CPR until she could safely climb off, and a pulse check was done. The Code Blue continued from the Cath lab. The patient survived the Cath and was admitted to the ICU. The prognosis for the patient is unknown, however Rosana’s quickness in responding and starting CPR was a critical moment that may save this patient’s brain function and ultimately their life.
