The project was a great success, in large part due to Wendy's willingness to face the challenges before her, knowing that the end result would be improved care for our patients.
I've seen Wendy grow from her days with us as a floor nurse to the great leader she is today. Wendy has always provided excellent care for her patients, coupling her strong work ethic with enthusiasm and compassion. It's great to now see her instilling those same values in her team. I've often used Wendy as a resource for clinical guidance, as well as operational insight.
Most recently, Wendy played a key role in the process of phasing out set mealtimes for carb-controlled patients. This was a big project and something we knew would cause some initial speculation and unrest among staff, though the ultimate goal was to improve our patients' experience and allow them more control of their meal routine. Wendy volunteered her unit to be the pilot unit for implementing this initiative, knowing that there were going to be pain points and challenges. She successfully navigated through some of the initial barriers and provided excellent insight for adjustments we would need to make in order to achieve our goal. She also assisted with establishing clear and efficient means of communication between the RN stations and the diet office. Wendy has also been a valuable asset to the Food & Nutrition Services department as we work towards a new initiative, which impacts nursing and requires their input on process changes. I know that I can always trust Wendy to give sound advice and accurate information, and I respect that when she does have doubt, she goes back to her team with questions and allows them the opportunity to explain the situation from a front-line RN perspective, rather than guessing or making assumptions. Wendy deserves to be acknowledged for all that she has contributed to the organization, the great leader she has become, and the high quality of care she has always provided for our patients.
