With her kindness, she made me feel like my wants and needs were important, and I was never a bother. She always took the time to listen and was never in a hurry when I had an issue or question.
I am a patient who until January 2024 I was healthy with no major health concerns. In January, I experienced a medical emergency and fell in my home that led to multiple fractures in my left ankle and required surgery and a minor fracture in my right leg, which required a boot. Due to the extent of the injury to my left ankle, I was not allowed any weight on to the left ankle. After the fall, I spent seven days in Mount Carmel East, and then I was transferred to a rehab hospital; that is where I met Melissa, who was my nurse during the day. During the entire course of my stay, Melissa went above and beyond the normal care I would have expected. She ensured that all my needs were taken care of in a timely matter while providing care to the rest of her patients. She never once greeted me without a smile. A friendly greeting no matter how busy she was, even though some of my needs were probably small, or maybe they could have waited. She never let on and treated my request with the utmost importance. With her kindness, she made me feel like my wants and needs were important, and I was never a bother. She always took the time to listen and was never in a hurry when I had an issue or question. She always made it a point to take a few minutes of her time just to say hi, ask me how I was doing, and inquire what she could do to make my stay as comfortable as she could. She is very friendly and has a wonderful bedside manner. She also displayed a high degree of professionalism as well. She is also very proficient at her job. Through her actions, I immediately, from day one, could tell she enjoys her job and enjoys helping people. Not only did it earn my trust from day one. As the week went on, she not only listened to my concerns and gave me advice on things. That would make my recovery easier, but also. She shared with me positive things that were going on in her life, such as her son. So we hope to see him someday playing in the NBA. We talked about other things that took my mind off my hardships and gave me the motivation to think of good things that the future could bring in. That was appreciated more than I could have ever imagined. The bottom line is that she is my superhero. Thank you for giving me the time to recognize someone who had a positive impact on my stay in the hospital and in my road to recovery
