Not only did she help me get better, but she reminded me of how strong and smart I am and how pretty soon I will be making a difference just like her in my very own patient’s lives.
Amanda was an amazing nurse to me. She worked effortlessly alongside her colleagues and figuring out what was wrong with me on her very first night of meeting me. I was diagnosed with renal tubular acidosis type two which causes me to suffer from severe muscle spasms and chest pain and in the moment, I thought I would die. Amanda reminded me of how strong I was and how I could make it through this storm. She remained calm and helped me remain calm, reminding my mom that everything would be OK. She worked diligently and quickly to get my lab results back and added the situation to minimize my pain. Not only did she help me get better, but she reminded me of how strong and smart I am and how pretty soon I will be making a difference just like her in my very own patient’s lives. She offered advice on nursing school and told me how one day I would make an amazing nurse, because of all of these experiences that I had to encounter with my illness. Those words are words that I will use as I start nursing school so that one day, God willing, I can come back and work perhaps on this floor and give back all of the help and love all of the units nurses offered me this week.
Spending a week on the 1st floor taught me how diligently, effectively, and carefully all of these nurses work to ensure that all their patients get to go home to their lives. To me, each and every one of them is a superhero, but Amanda is mine. I will never forget her and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to thank her enough. That is why I truly believe that she is a DAISY Nurse. Not only is she a great nurse, but she also has an amazing heart. She gives 100% and everything she does. I was honored to have her as my nurse for three nights.
Amanda, never stop working to change your patient’s lives, never dim your light for anyone because you shine so brightly on my darkest days and allowed me to smile. Thank you so much, and may God bless you with all the happiness this universe can offer you.
