Heather is approachable, eager to teach, and dedicates time outside of her normal hours to ensure every staff member feels comfortable with learning new skills/information. She makes teaching easy to grasp and is very adaptable to various learning needs. She is so knowledgeable and kind!
• Heather created and implemented Teams sites for both the ICU and HHOU, which include an education tracker for staff to keep track of their required CEs and Learning and Performance modules.
• When presented with a challenge, Heather identified a solution and implemented training to achieve this. She developed a standard of care for patients returning from cath lab with a new suture device in place. She learned from the physicians performing the procedure and developed a training plan for nurses to safety remove the device. In collaboration with another CPS, they provided training for the device and were successfully able to competency multiple staff members on safe removal. This initiative enhanced patient throughput and satisfaction.
• Heather holds study sessions for nurses who are looking to become certified in their specialty and continues to support the nurses up until it is time to take the test.
• Heather prioritizes the staff’s education needs and never hesitates to drop what she is doing to answer a clinical question or help guide a team member through patient care.
• Heather has implemented individual Teams sites for each orientee so that they have their own area to track progress and utilize resources.
• Heather is an advocate for continued education and always encourages the team to keep learning and growing.
• Our unit is grateful to have such an incredible, intelligent, engaged and passionate Clinical Practice Specialist.
