Over the next few weeks, John continued caring for my dad better than I could ever imagined. He always took the time to genuinely connect with my dad. This meant so much!
It has been very important to me that I share this, and this is finally the time that I am sitting down and putting my thoughts into words.
I am writing to express my family’s extreme gratitude for the work and care of your nurse, John. In November, my 86-year-old father was admitted to the Lemay Avenue Rehab facility. This was a brand-new experience for him, and for all of us. We were all nervous and apprehensive.
My nervousness diminished when Nurse John was assessing my dad. My dad was sitting in the recliner chair in his new room, and John was going to check on my dad’s feet. As he slowly reclined the chair, I mentioned to John that my dad has a compression fracture in his L1 vertebrae. John (with no chart or paperwork in his hands) said, “Yes, is that from his fall in July?” What?! I couldn’t believe it! This nurse knew exactly who he was with and how to care for him. This was within the first half hour of our experience at Lemay, and I knew in that moment that my dad was in good hands. What a relief!
Over the next few weeks, John continued caring for my dad better than I could ever imagined. He always took the time to genuinely connect with my dad. This meant so much! Sometimes, my sister and I would come and visit, and my dad would talk about a conversation he and John had earlier in the day. He was always there to offer a snack (my Dad’s favorite part!), enjoy a conversation, deliver medications, and, most importantly, provide an overall sense of incredible knowledge, genuine care, and attention to detail.
My sister and I were so happy and relieved to know that John was there caring for our dad. We truly believe that if John wasn’t there, our dad’s experience at Lemay would have been ok, but not nearly as good and positive as it was. We feel that special people come into our lives exactly when we need them, and your nurse, John, was definitely that person for my dad (and for our family).
I am writing to tell you how valuable John has been to my dad (and us). I hope that you know, understand, and appreciate the value that he brings to Lemay. We did not know what to expect in a rehab facility, and if we ever need these services again, we can only hope that he gets care similar to what John offered. Thank you for the work that you all do, and for providing a culture in which nurses like John can thrive. Please also know that the other nurses and CNAs were incredibly wonderful and kind also. There was something about John’s care that went above and beyond.
