Over those miserable two days, I never, ever was made to feel that I was just "a case" or that my needs were unimportant.
As you know, an Extraordinary Nurse possesses compassion, expertise, professionalism, and communication skills and the ability and willingness to see the situation and the treatment through the eyes of the patient.  Much of this is attributable to a mindset that enables her to function at full clinical throttle without sacrificing the human elements of warmth and empathy.

This cannot be taught.  Either you have it or you don't.  Kimberly has it, and she clearly nurtured it to the benefit of her patients. (I studied nursing myself, and wound up with a completely different career because I wasn't blessed with Kimberly's ability to balance the technical aspect of patient care with emotional ones.)

Kimberly cared for me for two days, following hip resurfacing/ replacement surgery.  This was my second such operation in eight weeks, which meant that the weak newly operated side had to depend on muscles and other body parts that were only just getting stronger (at the age of 76) following my first surgery.  This meant the situation wasn't optimal, and she understood that. Simultaneously, she helped me through a frightening adverse reaction to a pain medication that came with new requirements for lab tests and x-rays.

She evaluated the changing situation and took time, with a full patient load, to anticipate the extra attention I would need at every stage, and to provide it to me, in my room at the far end of the hall!  Over those miserable two days, I never, ever was made to feel that I was just "a case" or that my needs were unimportant.

As everything I have related to you was the product of this wonderful RN's natural way of doing things.  It's clear that somehow, she was able to give the same quality of care to all her other patients too.

She so deserves recognition, which also would serve as an inspiration for other nurses.
