My son G has been a resident of the NICU-SBU for the past 23 weeks and in that time he has required the services of the SWOT team countless times. On his 23rd day of life he needed emergency bedside abdominal surgery, this left him with a stoma and mucus fistula in his stomach. And because of this, we got to meet the SWOT team. G had his ostomy bag for 3 months, and his was definitely hard to manage, often times requiring this team to come to his bedside to try to create an ostomy bag system that would last throughout a shift, unfortunately on many occasions this was not the case. SWOT always came with smiles, humor, and kindness. They compassionately cared for my son, doing probably the grossest job the hospital offers. After G had his reanastemosis surgery, the SWOT team was back to care for his post operative incision. Again, they were ready to help G however they could. Following his surgery, G struggled with his body rejecting some of his sutures leaving him with ugly abscesses, and guess who was there to help them heal and get better, SWOT. Again, the team that does the least glamorous job in the hospital is the SWOT team. Poor G, has had a lot to deal with in his short life, but he definitely has had the best care with the SWOT team looking after him.
