She continues to strive for ways to better serve our patient base and has championed not only for our Spanish speakers by advocating for staff to become certified, but she has tirelessly advocated for the underserved by joining work groups for healthcare equity/disparities and identifying/supporting with workflows that help staff to meet the patient needs.
Chris Withbroe embraces the UCHealth mission and values in every action she does in her role as Director of Nursing for the Birth Center.  Every action considers the patient first, doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do, and surpassing the expectations of UCHealth.

Since her inception with UCHealth, she has created an environment where staff feel trusted and heard. What began as mutual learning and respect with a new nurse manager and established team - it has now grown to be the strongest team where staff have been empowered to take on projects and care for patients that matter.

She continues to motivate staff to bring their best selves every single day as she strives bring forth best evidence for practice and meeting the challenges of an ever-changing health arena. She was only the Nurse Manager for 6 months when she assumed the Director of Nursing role. This did not come easily as she assumed the new role as well as the current Nurse Manager role until one could be hired.

She showed up, dressed in scrubs to work alongside short-staffed shifts even with both roles, again- showing respect and teamwork with the staff. This visible support of staff and her team allowed them to grow with her. As she shared her vulnerability, the staff were able to share theirs, and felt an increasing bond. Seeing her take on challenges encouraged them to do the same. This team building began with her actions as much as her words, and through that example, nurses on the unit began to grow in their professional development and care, as well as compassion.

She has tackled physical, financial and communication challenges as she championed for Vocera responses from all teams to codes and massive transfusion, support from having an ANM at night, utilizing teamwork to successfully change our neonatal hypoglycemia rates, having computers in all rooms and multiple other workflows. She successfully worked us through an excellent Joint Commission visit/summary. These are just a few of the many ways she has provided excellence in her role and changed lives in big ways in her role as Director of Nursing.
