CPT Casey is an excellent leader and compassionate team member, always raising the morale of the team when he is on shift. He is usually working as charge nurse and will double down and assist with triage secondary to staffing shortages. He always finds time to assist with patient care, taking patients into fast-track rooms to assist with the flow of the department and ensuring patients receive timely care. There have been many times when his compassion and empathy for patients have assisted me with more timely patient care and allowed others around him to be more compassionate to the patients in a busy emergency department. One of the examples of his compassionate care that comes to mind is the time when he took on an extra patient load to assist me in caring for a mother/child patient combo who had 2 other children with her. He helped get these patients into a triage room so that I could see them, get them the care they needed, and get them out of the department so that the mother didn't have to wait for hours in the waiting room while having to care for her other children. Another time was when a young male with a severe back injury was brought in by ambulance for excruciating pain, and while I was getting the history and examining the patient, CPT Casey jumped in and helped provide nursing caring for the patient, document the triage, get an IV, and obtain pain medications to the bedside for rapid administration. There are numerous other examples of his extraordinary nursing care, which is probably the case for every shift he works. He is a true DAISY Nurse Leader.
