During a recent procedure, the room was all ready for the surgeon to start when Sarah got a call from the provider for multiple orders that had to be done STAT prior to continuing the scheduled procedure. Sarah stopped the room from continuing on and ensured that all orders were put in correctly and all coordinating calls were made (pharmacy and lab) to ensure correct tests (blood and wound cultures) were done in a timely fashion. After learning about the procedure officially changing, she stopped the line to ensure all new consents, orders, and labs needed were correctly in, signed, and labeled prior to the new procedure starting, as well as coordinating calls to PACU, family lounge, and her supervisor to update them on the situation. She does not hesitate to speak up to anyone about patient safety concerns. She is a true patient advocate, and we are lucky to have her as part of the team!
