Hannah is patient and approachable, making it easy for staff to ask questions when assistance is needed. She collaborates with others at UnityPoint Health and our Mission provider group on new processes.
Hannah has been the educator on Powell 3 since 2020 and has been nothing short of amazing! She is an invaluable member of our leadership team. Hannah has many tasks in her role, but educating is her calling. One of her main areas of education is chemotherapy education. She not only teaches a formal class twice a year, but also meets with agency nurses who need to be chemotherapy trained during off hours. She does this to make sure we have enough chemotherapy nurses on our unit and can provide safe care to our patients. In addition, Hannah works with other departments to ensure they are educated in the proper method of administering other hazardous medications. I can think of one situation recently where another unit needed help. Hannah dopped everything and spent hours on the other unit discussing with their leaders and educating the team. She has also helped create an updated hazardous policy and educational video, which will impact the system. She was also the star of the fall prevention video that streams on our hospital channel! Again, she championed the role of educator and was willing to share her knowledge.

Hannah always brings new updates to the floor with understanding and compassion. People do not always receive change positively and Hannah helps us all to embrace it and see how it will benefit our patients. One big change for Powell 3 is the implementation of chlorohexidine baths for all patients with central lines. Hannah diligently audits and follows up with staff about getting these done every day.

I personally was trained by Hannah as a new grad nurse years ago, and she welcomed me into the Powell 3 family with open arms. Our team would not be as successful in our nursing professions if it weren't for this amazing nursing peer, educator, and friend.
