A patient came in with an aortic dissection and it was determined this patient needed to be transferred to a facility in Gainesville to receive a higher level of care. Unfortunately, the weather was bad and the helicopters were unable to transport the patient, so he needed ground transport. Transport companies would not be able to pick the patient up for several hours and this patient needed immediate transport, so William Eble contacted the local EMS agency to facilitate transport. Unfortunately, he was met with a lot of resistance – he was told no transport vehicles were available and to call back in an hour for an update. This happened several more times as he called for repeated updates. However, William continued to reach out to air and ground transport to facilitate the safe transport of this patient. William stayed for four hours past his shift end time to make sure this patient continued to receive appropriate care, follow up on transport, and even offered to ride along with EMS to assist in transport of this very sick patient. Luckily after hours of phone calls, the weather cleared and we were able to fly the patient to Gainesville for the life-saving surgery he needed.
