I delivered my baby having entered the hospital for an induction two days prior. My cervix was quite slow to dilate, and I was experiencing particular pain on my right side.
I was lucky enough to be in the care of Marissa Reed.
The obstetrician was thinking that a c-section would be necessary; however, Marissa listened carefully as I described my pain, and she suspected that shifting the baby’s position would make all the difference.
This is when Marissa contacted Laura Borgen, who she knew had a lot of experience and training with “spinning babies.” Laura skillfully assessed the situation and gave us as much time as she could for the rest of her shift, even though she wasn’t assigned to my care.
Moving admirably as a team, and working closely with the obstetrician, these two intrepid, positive, and resourceful nurses worked with me all night to turn the baby into a more favorable position and to stretch my cervix safely.
After a shift change and some time to rest, I was able to safely deliver my baby.
Without Marissa and Laura’s care, I highly doubt that a vaginal birth would have been possible.
Marissa and Laura should be recognized for their teamwork and the trust that they had in each other; as well as for their skill and compassion.
They did everything one would hope and imagine that an L&D nurse could do for both mother and child, and they are exemplary colleagues.
