We are Glenn Maddy because he is a very important member of our care team. As an expert in vascular access, he is the one we call when we cannot start an IV. We frequently start IV’s for our procedures and sometimes that can be challenging. Sometimes that requires a specialist with special equipment. Our patients are often here for procedures that have them stressed or anxious to obtain an IV for the procedure greatly increases that stress – of the patient, family member and the radiology staff. On every occasion, when I have contacted Glenn for help, he has always been responsive and accommodating. He makes the patient feel like a priority when he arrives quickly. He realizes that our procedure is at a halt until we have IV access. He is always pleasant and cheerful and quickly gains the confidence of the patient. He shows up and saves the day! Our most recent example was today. We had a patient scheduled for a coronary CTA, We were unable to start the IV. Glenn arrived within minutes. He was friendly and comforting to the patient. She was upset and felt embarrassed that she had small veins. Glenn put her at ease. He is a wonderful example of nursing excellence and expertise and we are thankful he is a member of our Mercy Team.
