Tara McKee noticed from her office window an elderly woman driving around our office park parking lot and speaking to passers by appearing to be lost. Both my nurse and an MA walked out to approach the woman to determine if she was having trouble. Their intuition, quick thinking & engagement most likely prevented a significant safety event for this woman. Tara quickly realized they needed to get the authorities and first responders involved. They learned that the woman did not know where she was or why she ended up at our location. It was clear she was putting herself in harm's way and sharing personal information with random strangers that were in the parking lot. She convinced her to go with first responders to get help and to allow them to go through her personal belongings to locate family contact information. Even though this woman was not a patient or receiving care at the site Tara jumped in right away when she noticed something wasn't right. Her compassion and patience with the woman were essential in creating a space that made the patient feel safe and secure. Tara and the MA that she worked with to help the patient were a great team.
