Megan finds innovative ways to support and educate her team by simplifying whatever content is needed and presented.
Megan Chan is an admired, conscientious nurse who exceeds expectations in all professional endeavors. Because of her passion for nursing, she serves in multiple roles, splitting her time between community health and nursing education. She serves as a part-time Community Health Services team leader, striving to meet the needs of the community and her coworkers by introducing innovations and swiftly adapting to change. Megan continuously sets a great example for other nurses with the high expectations she sets for herself by providing exceptional care and going above and beyond to pursue all available resources for clients. She has developed strong community relationships, and her efforts have greatly contributed to improving population health.

A year ago, Megan assumed another role as a part-time Nurse educator for the Metabolic Unit, where she exceeded expectations by effectively supporting the nurse leader and new nurses transitioning to practice. As an educator, Megan finds innovative ways to support and educate her team by simplifying whatever content is needed and presented. Megan frequently split her shifts, giving herself the opportunity to work the night shifts to support the staff, especially new nurses transitioning to practice. She frequently meets with new nurses off shifts and on her own time, helping them with some of the challenges new nurses currently experience in their practice.

During COVID surges, Megan pivoted to serve as a staff nurse on the COVID unit, then assumed a leadership role conducting follow-up calls for our nascent COVID Recovery Program. Her initiative provided an enhanced call experience for patients.

She adeptly led and collaborated with team members, including the Department of Medicine and Information Technologies, resulting in 500+ participants being enrolled in this program.

Megan assisted with Middlesex County's COVID testing and then joined in administering vaccinations at clinics. She was Saint Peter's first employee to be vaccinated and helped to immunize 45,000 plus individuals. Megan also leads community vaccination efforts at churches, community centers, and food banks, concurrently serving as a nurse educator.

Megan also assumed the role of charge nurse/preceptor for newly hired Nurses and public health interns. She worked closely with students, in collaboration with other community entities, such as the Healthier Middlesex Consortium, to ensure that the intern received a comprehensive and fulfilling internship while meeting the requirements for her program. Megan, along with her intern, coordinated the distribution of coronavirus care kits containing PPE, hand sanitizer, soap, and bilingual COVID-19 information for the Hispanic community.

Previously, Megan also worked along with other public health interns who, after receiving their public health degrees, moved on to pursue careers in nursing.

Megan is a co-investigator in a research study on the impact of COVID-19 on new Nurses transitioning to practice and recently mentored nursing students in the Metabolic unit in completing two research studies. The students were awarded the best research study at graduation and at St. Peters Nurses Week celebrations. Megan is an all-around aspiring leader and excels in all endeavors. She will start a master's degree in Nursing this fall.
