The success that we have shared as a unit has come from the strong relationships that we have built with each other while embracing the changes that we encounter daily as opportunities for growth.
This nomination comes from the 3 West Unit. Both 3 West and 5 West merged one year ago. As we celebrate our one year anniversary, the newly combined unit feels that Jackie deserves to receive the Nurse Leader Award. The qualities she possesses making this merge successful include the following:

1) Listening – actively listening to any and all concerns, be it professional or personal.

2) Equipping – ensuring that staff has the necessary equipment and education/resources to perform our duties effectively.

3) Appreciation – appreciation for all the hard work staff is continuously doing through weekly thank you through email, and personally thank you in our morning huddles. Supporting programs to appreciate each other, in our unit we select a monthly staff for “Shining Star”, the recipient receives a certificate and pin.

4) Development – encouraging staff to participate in committees to develop leadership roles; precepting new hires helping to reinforce their education/skills; pursuing higher level of education; with identification of any issues create solutions; and clinical matrix.

5) Encouraging – encouraging staff to support each other, work together, and see each other's individuality to build a strong team.

6) Relationships – the success that we have shared as a unit has come from the strong relationships that we have built with each other while embracing the changes that we encounter daily as opportunities for growth. Each of us has our own unique relationship with Jackie, as our staff work experience varies from new hire to over twenty years. Her open door policy makes it easy to approach her, this lets us know that we are welcome to see her at any time. As the author of this nomination letter I have had the honor of working with Jackie for a long time, she has walked in each of our shoes from being a PCT to now Director/Manager. She has contributed to my growth both personally and professionally. To sum it all up, Jackie's experience has given her the ability to find that fine line between empathy and tough love. Let’s face it: we all need a little tough love now and then.
