It is such a blessing to see all disciplines and teammates in action, but last week, I was completely humbled and in awe of Deidre Yeager, RNCM. She really handled a tough situation so eloquently… her words in a joint conversation with a patient’s husband had me questioning who the actual social worker was~ haha! This particular patient had been a full code since admission, sent out for aggressive care several times, and the husband had been angry, disconnected, and unwilling to accept his wife’s terminal state since day one.

I witnessed a miracle happen with this man right in front of me, and truly, Deidre was the momentum that shifted him. She has spent countless hours building rapport with him and compassionately caring for the patient. She is a dedicated nurse, always pushes herself to give extra and I am truly blessed to work alongside her. That moment softened this man’s heart to agree to a DNR, spending more time with his wife and accepting the terminal state of her condition. Although all that she said had been said to him many times before… it was her tone, patience, rapport, persistence, and prayer that yielded a positive result this time. She is a great nurse, and I wanted to say that in front of our peers and leaders!
