We have worked with Allyson for nearly 7 years combined years. Allyson is the definition of a caring, compassionate nurse. Allyson is so extremely helpful. She has been the charge nurse on our weekend for over two years and has shown superb leadership skills. Allyson goes above and beyond for her patients, their families, and her fellow co-workers. There are so many great examples and instances where Allyson has shown excellence. There is one recent example that outshines the rest.

Last week, we had a patient on our unit who came in after a mental health crisis. Unfortunately, the patient was unable to take care of her basic hygiene needs. The patient came in with extremely matted hair. The next day, before Allyson's shift, she went to the store and spent her own money to buy hair supplies for the patient. Allyson spent over an hour of her time brushing the patient's hair. The patient was very moved by Allyson's gesture and was even brought to tears with gratitude. This is an example of something small that can make a patient's hospital stay that much more memorable in a positive way. Although this is just one example of many, we truly believe Allyson exemplifies the definition of the DAISY Award.
