A patient shared with me today about one of the scariest moments of her life--how she almost lost her baby during her current pregnancy. After being discharged from the hospital the patient needed to be followed very closely by the Maternal Fetal Medicine Physicians. This weekly follow-up for the remainder of her pregnancy also included regular visits with one of the MFM Nurses. Lisa McKown-Kulick was the first MFM nurse this patient had an interaction with after her discharge from the High Risk OB Unit at Grant. This patient returned to the MFM office today and said the most wonderful things about her interactions with Lisa! The patient said Lisa's gentleness with her after her health scare made it seem less intimidating coming into our office weekly to check on everything. The patient stated how much it meant to her to be greeted by Lisa's smile and positivity at every appointment. It was clear to her that Lisa had genuine care for her health and the health of her baby. Ultimately, she was so grateful for the compassion Lisa displayed towards her as she had not experienced this level of exemplary care with another nurse prior to Lisa. She said Lisa patiently listened to her concerns and questions, and that Lisa never made her feel as though her concerns were not important during her visits. Lisa is an incredible example of someone who sincerely loves others and sincerely loves her patients. This specific patient is just one of the many lives she has touched during her career as a nurse. Lisa is the kind of person that makes you want to be more kind, patient, and empathetic towards others when you walk away from a conversation with her. She is constantly putting others before herself. Lisa is an incredible nurse and deserves recognition for the outstanding job she does every day when she shows up to work at Maternal Fetal Medicine.
