She made an effort to make a connection with me, and it made me feel heard and cared for at a time when I was nervous and not feeling well.
I came into the ER in severe pain, extremely dehydrated, and just overall not feeling well. That evening, I was admitted onto C3IU. I have never been admitted into a hospital, and although I am currently a nurse on the mother-infant unit, it was a new experience for me and really opened my eyes to what it is like to be the patient receiving the care and not the one providing care. While there were some concerns during my stay, I would like to discuss my care received by one nurse in particular, Pascale on nightshift.
When I first met Pascale, she entered my room smiling and explained to me my plan of care for the night so I would know what to expect during the night. She made an effort to get to know me personally, and she expressed her condolences about my dog, who had recently passed away, and told me about her pets as well. She made an effort to make a connection with me, and it made me feel heard and cared for at a time when I was nervous and not feeling well. She was always prompt when entering my room and anticipated my needs by bringing me my medications before I even had to ask for them. She stayed on top of my pain and nausea medications and allowed me to rest throughout the night. The two nights I had her as my nurse, I was able to rest and started to feel better due to her care and attention to detail. As a nurse, it is easy to get distracted by everything you need to complete during your shift, but Pascale never made me feel that way. When she was in my room, I felt as though I was her only patient, and she took her time and made me feel heard.
I just wanted to reach out to you and let her know that her effort and care as a nurse definitely deserve recognition, and I am thankful for her hand in my healing.
