Sandra went out of her way to provide holistic care and support to her patients throughout the program and as early as her first clinical experience in the program, where she arranged to find out how a library could get audiobooks to a patient in the nursing home who could not see well but loved to read. 

Throughout her preceptorship, she and her preceptor provided multiple examples that showed her attention and care for her patients. For example, she had a patient who was being tube-fed and had been given extra water because his sodium levels were too high. The protocol had been reduced in water amount, but we noticed that his O2 levels would drop. The nurse increased his oxygen. Sandra noticed that he was using accessory muscles to breathe, and respirations were 44 per minute. She called the nurse back, who contacted the provider, who ordered a STAT chest x-ray, which showed fluid on the lungs, and steps were taken. Sandra picked up on this subtle change and prevented a potentially negative outcome for this patient.

Sandra has fully embraced our program, and came to excel in all areas including exams, writing, clinical practice,  and simulation.
