Karol took the time to ask and listen without pre-judgment of my chronic pain issues. That is what makes him so special as a nurse.
No one could figure out my pain, including doctors. The doctors thought I was asking for more opioids. Karol took the time to ask the right questions like, “Is the pain surgical or muscular?” I answered muscle, and he suggested to the doctors to switch muscle relaxers and to heat. The pain began to subside but continued. He advocated to get the meds increased. It helped me to feel much better, and I was eventually discharged. He (amongst 2 other nurses) cared the most. However, it was Karol that had the most impact on the speed of my recovery. Everyone else simply assumed that I was asking for higher doses of opioids. Granted, if that was what I needed, then it was a problem. Karol took the time to ask and listen without pre-judgment of my chronic pain issues. That is what makes him so special as a nurse. He must have a significant impact on all patients that he treats, I am sure. Thank you, Karol…from the bottom of my heart. You have the unique ability to step back and evaluate clearly.
