When I came in on Tuesday morning, Jack had washed K’s hair, brushed all the knots and glue out, and braided K’s hair for her/me.
My 22-year-old daughter K was admitted to the ICU on Wednesday. She had a seizure and aspirated and coded multiple times. They had to do 2 EEGs on her, and the glue they used for probes had completely matted her hair. It was awful. I tried and could do nothing with it. I was so worried that I would have to cut her hair off to manage it. Her nurse tried to wash it, but it did not help. Jack recognized that it bothered/distressed me so badly. She offered to try to do something. I ran out and bought a brush, detangler and leave-in conditioner, anything I could think of that might help. When I came in on Tuesday morning, Jack had washed K’s hair, brushed all the knots and glue out, and braided K’s hair for her/me. She was there to care for K’s medical needs, but she went above and beyond her duties to take care of her hair for her and for us as a family. My heart just lit up after seeing K. K was in a coma state and could not thank her, but I want to make sure that Jack knows how much that meant to us. That was not her job, but she took the time to do it. And I know that was no easy task. I just want her to be recognized for the amazing, compassionate nurse that she is. I will always be so grateful for what she did for my baby girl. Jack is a superstar in my book! I can’t thank her enough. Plus, on top of taking care of her hair, she cared for her with so much love and compassion. All of the doctors and nurses were great, but again, Jack went above and beyond her duties to help K and her family. I can never thank her enough or show her how much I appreciate her for what she did.
