My wife was a patient on the Stepdown Care Unit for 23 days, covering two admissions in February and March 2024. While there are many excellent nurses on SDU, one particular nurse stood out as exceptional and epitomized what every nurse should strive to be. That nurse is Becky Browning, a Charge Nurse on SDU.

Becky is highly knowledgeable, calm, patient, and extremely compassionate. In every service Becky provided to my wife she went above and beyond what was necessary. She explained whatever treatment or service she was providing in language that any patient could understand. She gladly, patiently, and respectfully answered all the questions we asked and never acted as if our questions were bothersome. Becky's calm and knowledgeable approach always put my wife at ease during many medically complex and emotionally stressful times.

On several occasions when there was a crisis on the unit, various nurses would seek Becky's assistance, and I noted that she treated her fellow employees in the same manner in which she treated my wife. Said differently, in addition to providing exceptional nursing care to her patients, Becky leads by example, treating both patients and fellow employees with kindness and compassion. Whenever we requested a service or a supply item for my wife, Becky did not hesitate to provide that service herself. No service was too small or too large for Becky to gladly perform.

Becky also understands the importance of "managing patient expectations." If we needed her for something and she was tied up fulfilling another patient's needs, she would let us know that and provide a very accurate time estimate regarding when she would be able to assist my wife, and she always did what she said she was going to do.

In summary, Becky Browning is a shining star who represents both Chesapeake Regional Medical Center and nurses everywhere in an exemplary fashion.
