I know she will go the extra mile to help me and everyone else in our unit deliver the very best care to make our kids better today and healthier tomorrow.
I am writing to you all after a busy shift with many curveballs and heartaches in our PICU. This is not an anomaly in our unit, of course. However, the winter months during the respiratory season are especially challenging. I needed you all to know that as I clocked out well after my scheduled time to leave, I saw this nurse in a room comforting a distressed patient and assisting a new graduate nurse in settling her patient after a trip to MRI. I need you to know that despite having been a resource nurse two days in a row, and despite having to be back again the next day, she stayed, she comforted, and she cared both for the patient and her new coworker. When she is listed as a resource or my neighbor, I sigh a breath of relief because I know she will go the extra mile to help me and everyone else in our unit deliver the very best care to make our kids better today and healthier tomorrow. I need her to know how she is seen, and her efforts are admirable. May we all learn to act with such selflessness.
