It's the hardest thing I have ever been through, but Blythe made the experience the best that it could be, considering the circumstances.
8 weeks ago, to the day, I received the worst phone call of my life. My daughter had been in a severe car accident, and I needed to get to the hospital as quickly as I could. The next day, I hadn't left my daughter's side and was having a close friend come to visit us in the Neuro ICU. When my friend showed up, Blythe (who also knew my friend) came up behind her. I was shocked. Apparently, Blythe had been working in the Neuro ICU all day, and neither of us knew each other was there. I've known Blythe since we went to nursing school together. I knew she worked at St. Alphonsus but had no idea which location or on what unit. She came up to me and gave me a big hug, and of course, there were tears. She had told me she would try to get assigned to my daughter the next day. I was immediately comforted to know someone who knew and cared for me would be caring for my daughter.
Blythe not only was my daughter's nurse the next day but came in and worked a couple of extra shifts just to care for my daughter. It kept continuity of care, transparency with me, and compassionate care for my girl. She brought me a yummy tea one morning and did everything she could to make things comfortable for not just me but my family as well. She helped with mementos to keep my daughter's memory alive and provided excellent nursing care. Unfortunately, my daughter ended up passing away. It's the hardest thing I have ever been through, but Blythe made the experience the best that it could be, considering the circumstances. I will forever be grateful to Blythe for the outstanding care she provided to my daughter, and I know it was more than a coincidence that she showed up that day. Thank you!
