The Education team supports Memorial Hermann's Mission, Vision, Values and improvement measures and strategic goals. The education team actively supports the nursing and non-nursing employees in delivering safe, optimal care daily. The education team collaborates with the leadership team and the quality team to ensure that education is completely timely based on the departmental or organizational needs. The education team consists of an interdisciplinary team specialized for the needs of Memorial Hermann Katy to include maternal-fetal, neonatal, pediatric, perioperative services, cath lab, interventional radiology, critical care, and emergency services. In fact, Memorial Hermann Katy has the distinct honor of having the only Houston AWHONN (Association of Women's Health Obstetrics and Neonatal) Fetal monitor instructors. Based upon the feedback received from staff over the last year, the education team has increased the classes offered at the Katy campus to include Pediatric Advanced Life Support Classes, Advanced Life Support Classes, OB Critical Care classes, and maintained Basic Life Support classes. This year, in addition to the two-day EKG class, the education department supported the increasing demands for the staff endeavoring to successfully complete the Relias assessment, Advanced Dysrhythmia with measurement offered multiple versions of the Fundamentals of EKG Identification to include live, virtual, and self-paced options. The educators assisted by providing one-on-one mentorship to relieve some of the anxiety associated with this task and provide one-on-one reviews for those who needed this assistance. The education department has recently implemented clinical days for the educator for different units. The educator is on the unit for several hours in which they provide guidance, mentoring, just in time training to meet the educational needs of the unit. This concept builds rapport with staff, promotes trust, and creates an environment where staff are not afraid to ask questions or seek guidance when performing a new or infrequent task. The education team offers a variety of educational opportunities to the staff to include the Preceptor class, Proficient Preceptor class, LVN class, phlebotomy, ESI (Emergency Severity Index) Triage class, Neonatal resuscitation program. In addition to the classes offered, the Education team host C.A.V.E three times annually to allow staff to obtain hands on demonstration/review/just in time training incorporating games and fun to enhance learning in a relaxed environment. The education team does not limit to just Memorial Hermann employees. Through SETRAC, neonatal resuscitation provider course is taught to our EMS partners. The education team is an integral part of Memorial Hermann Katy. As Memorial Hermann continues to grow, the educational team will be there to support the growth, lead with education and continue to support the development of safe, quality-driven staff.
