One particularly hard day for me, Adrienne noted it and came at the end of the shift to do a healing touch before going home – way above and beyond her responsibility. It was because Adrienne really cared!
I would like to nominate Adrienne for the DAISY Award for the outstanding skill she brings to your unit. Adrienne was only “officially” my nurse for one out of five days. I felt, however, that she watched after my physical and emotional health. On the 1st day, Adrienne established that all my concerns were met, my pain was under control, and I understood my plan of care and unit policies. I am a 35-year retired veteran pediatric oncology ICU RN. I was used to being the one in control, the one others were depending on. Now I found myself in severe pain, taking pain medication for literally the 1st time. My anxiety level was through the roof! Adrienne offered a “healing touch,” which I was not familiar with but found to be very relaxing and a valuable tool for my anxiety. During the rest of my visit, although she was very busy with her other patients, she would stop by long enough to pat me as she walked by, ask how things were going, and make sure I had lavender. One particularly hard day for me, Adrienne noted it and came at the end of the shift to do a healing touch before going home – way above and beyond her responsibility. It was because Adrienne really cared! Your whole staff was top-notch, but Adrienne was the star in my eyes. I hope you recognize what a special, caring leader and employee you are.
