Jill seemed to be omnipresent in my room, constantly checking in on me; I rarely had to ring the nurse’s station for assistance when she was on duty.
I was admitted to the CCMN Hospital for seven days and, as such, had Jill as my nurse for several days; it seemed like four to five days. Over the past seven years, I have been admitted into CCMN eight to nine times with six to seven-day stays each time. In all my stays, Jill stood out above all the other caregivers.

Jill seemed to be omnipresent in my room, constantly checking in on me; I rarely had to ring the nurse’s station for assistance when she was on duty. Jill attended to my needs with warmth and compassion. I experienced more confusion during this past stay due to three specific diagnoses and illnesses. Jill was present during all the doctors’ visits and consistently explained and clarified my diagnoses to me and my family.

On my second day there, I told Jill that I had not bathed in three days. Rather than trying to find a nurse technician to bathe me during their shift change, she bathed me herself at the very end of her shift. I found that to be quite unique; I would think that most nurses would defer this chore to the next shift’s technician.

At one point during my stay, I was severely constipated and in pain. Jill took it upon herself over two days to administer various medicines and procedures to alleviate my discomfort, including donning a plastic gown and goggles after an enema to await the oncoming onslaught. She was relentless in her efforts to achieve a positive outcome.

On a more mundane note, on my last night there, I ordered a cheese quesadilla for supper. After the tray came, I noticed that they had neglected to give me the sour cream and salsa that I had requested. I immediately called the kitchen, but it was 6:32 pm, and I received only a recording saying the kitchen was closed. Jill had come in at that point and observed what had recently occurred. She said, “You can't eat a quesadilla without sour cream and salsa,” and immediately ran down to the kitchen and returned with said sour cream and salsa. This was most definitely over and above the call of typical nursing duties.

In all my stays at CCMN, I have received good to excellent care from the nurses; however, none of my caregivers stands out like Jill Sabine.
