I am an out-of-town student and was pretty certain that in January, I was going to have to take a leave of absence due to a clinical site that fell through at the last minute. Dr. Evers came to me almost immediately and said she and her clinic would be happy to take me on for the semester, even with only two weeks until it started. She works full-time as a practicing midwife and full-time as faculty for KUSON’s midwifery program. She probably didn’t have time for a student, but she decided to believe in me. I am so grateful for the opportunities I have had with her this semester and for getting to know her. She saw me walk into my first patient room at the clinic, helped me catch my first baby, led me through difficult patient experiences, and has been such a cheerleader for me in my learning. She has coached me through imposter syndrome numerous times and always greets me with a smile, ready to help me learn how to be a better person and future midwife. After all this is said and done at the clinic, she then goes home to give me equally constructive feedback in two different classes. I know she strives for me to be my best. It’s because of instructors like her that I have the opportunity to reach for all of my academic dreams.
