She was a shoulder to cry on when the days were hard. She was a hug when I needed it. She was my teammate and advocate when my husband was not improving and needed different treatment.
My husband had so many wonderful nurses during his 99-day stay in the hospital, but Jessica was extra special. Neal was fortunate enough to have Jessica for many of the days he was in the hospital. She always went above and beyond, not only for my husband but also for me. Nursing is not just a job for Jessica; it is a passion, and it shows! Here are a few ways she went above and beyond for my husband... 1. Jessica always ensured his trays were set up. This may seem basic, but this was not usually the case for my husband. She would sit him up, open up anything that needed to be opened, and get him fresh drinks. She would even call the cafeteria and order him specific meals that she knew he would eat. 2. Jessica would also visit him (even if he wasn't her patient). I would be with my husband most of the day, but we have two young children, and I had to split my time between the hospital and home. His vision was impaired when his brain aneurysm ruptured, which meant he couldn't watch TV, look at his phone, or read. If he didn't have a visitor, he would just have to sit and stare at the wall. Jessica noticed this and would go out of her way to visit with him so he wouldn't have to sit alone with nothing to do. 3. She even visited him at Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital after he left WRMC. 4. Jessica would also take the time to get my husband up for walks and move him back and forth from the bed to his chair. 5. Lastly, she gifted us a gift card to Outback to celebrate him going home. She wanted us to be able to enjoy a date night. Not only did Jessica give my husband the BEST care, she also took great care of ME. She was a shoulder to cry on when the days were hard. She was a hug when I needed it. She was my teammate and advocate when my husband was not improving and needed different treatment. She was always checking to see if I needed something to drink or a warm blanket. Jessica truly deserves this award. We are eternally grateful for the amazing care she gave my husband during one of the worst times in our lives. But we are SO THANKFUL for ALL the doctors, nurses, and staff who worked so hard to heal him. My husband is alive because of the expert care he received at WRMC. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
