Sarah’s kind nature, calming tone of voice, exceptional nursing skills, and sense of humor get us through long days.
Sarah Cohen has been wonderful. My husband and I started this cancer journey at Termeer about a month ago. It has been scary, upsetting, and life changing. We met Sarah on our first visit, and she has taken good care of my husband each week since. She meets us with a smile and often a laugh. She’s an outstanding nurse who carries out her duties with ease and professionalism. What makes Sarah exceptional is that she shows up and listens to us each week when we come for my husband’s treatment, when she probably could be doing other nursing tasks. She gets to know us as a couple and as a family. She observes when we are upset and need emotional support and makes us feel like my husband is her only patient. As his wife, each time I walk into MGH, I hope that Sarah will be the one caring for my husband that day. Sarah knows how to “read the room“ which allows her to be a better nurse. My husband doesn’t need to say explicitly to her what he needs; often she will just pick up on it and take care of the concern. This emotional safety net is imperative, especially during a phase 1 trial. Hope is a very important part of this journey and some days there’s very little hope. Sarah’s kind nature, calming tone of voice, exceptional nursing skills, and sense of humor get us through long days. I thought a social worker, or a counselor would’ve been the most helpful at MGH but that’s not been the case. Sarah has taken that role. We thank her for that.
