Marcial Reyes is an outstanding emergency room charge nurse at Kaiser Permanente. Marcial is an exceptional leader whose unwavering dedication, compassionate care, and exemplary leadership skills have significantly impacted our emergency department and the entire healthcare team.

In Marcial’s role as charge nurse, he consistently goes above and beyond to ensure the highest standards of care for our patients. Marcial’s ability to remain calm under pressure while making critical decisions for the department's patients and staff while maintaining a positive and supportive environment has greatly contributed to the efficient functioning of our emergency department.

Marcial is not only a skilled clinician but also a true advocate for both the patients and his colleagues. He leads by example, fostering a collaborative and respectful atmosphere among the nursing staff.  His approachable nature and willingness to mentor and support his team members have created a sense of unity and camaraderie within our department.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Marcial’s leadership is his commitment to continuous improvement. He consistently seeks opportunities to enhance patient care processes, streamline workflows, and implement best practices. His proactive approach has led to measurable improvements in patient outcomes, staff satisfaction, and overall efficiency in our emergency room. 

In addition to his professional expertise, Marcial Reyes possesses exceptional interpersonal skills that make him a trusted and respected leader. Patients often express gratitude for the compassionate care they receive under his watch, and colleagues appreciate his approachable demeanor and willingness to support them in their roles. 

Examples: Marcial exemplifies a commitment to patient care that goes above and beyond expectations. Notably, during our company flu vaccinations, Marcial played a pivot role in ensuring the success of flu shots for ensuring Kaiser Permanente meets its goal, not only does he surpass all nurses in the emergency room but supports and encourages staff to implement flu shots each and everyday during flu season. His approach and dedication to promoting a culture of health and well-being is truly commendable. 

In addition, Marcial involvement has been instrumental in optimizing throughput of bed assignments our emergency department, he tirelessly works to endure that patients are assigned to appropriate beds promptly, contributing to the overall efficiency of our emergency services, this commitment to streamline processes has significantly improved patient care delivery in our department. 

Furthermore, Marcial takes on the demanding responsibility of not only managing the charge nurse duties but also actively participating in ambulance triage and patients of his own. This dual role showcases his exceptional multitasking abilities and willingness to lead by example. Marcial’s dedication to maintaining a smooth flow of patients, even in high-pressure situations, is a testament to his outstanding leadership skills. 

Tragically, Marcial contracted COVID-19 while fulfilling his duties in the emergency room. Despite facing personal adversity. He displayed resilience and courage, spending several weeks in the ICU while battling the effects of the virus. The selfless sacrifice further underscores his commitment to the well-being of others and his unwavering dedication to his role as a healthcare professional. 

In recognition of Marcial Reyes's outstanding contributions to the emergency department and his leadership exemplary leadership, I wholeheartedly recommend him for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
