Her tireless commitment to improving patient outcomes and enhancing the quality of care in the ICU has left an indelible mark on countless lives and inspired generations of healthcare professionals. Beyond her clinical skills, she is revered for her compassionate bedside manner and innate ability to comfort patients and their families during times of immense stress and uncertainty.
Renee Williams, a Registered Nurse, is being recognized with the Lifetime Achievement DAISY Award for her devotion of her life’s work to the compassionate care of others.  She has actively mentored others, advocated for patients, served as role model, and promoted a positive image of nursing throughout the span of her career. Renee has served as a beacon of inspiration to those at all stages of their career and in the various and important roles within nursing.

Renee was employed at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center from 1991 to her retirement on August 30, 2022.  Renee graduated from the School of Nursing in LAC-USC. After graduation, Renee worked at LAC-USC, a level 1 trauma hospital before transferring to KP Fontana. She was selected for this award by her peers, and the Nursing Excellence Reward and Recognition and Patient Care Experience Committee.

Renee has always been a dedicated nurse. An ICU CN, describes Renee as the following:
“Renee is one of the most dedicated nurses I have ever worked with. She is a great source of knowledge, always a team player, and a go-getter. She always goes above and beyond for her patients, family, and friends. When Renee started working at Kaiser Fontana, she brought with her the expertise and hard work from working at a trauma level 1 hospital, which benefited our patients and those who worked with her. Renee will always be the example of what a true Critical Care Nurse is and what we should strive for.”

Another colleague stated:
“When I was hired almost 9 years ago as a bedside RN in 2 North ICU, I was trained by Renee Williams for my first shift. I was blown away by her professionalism and ability to do every task by the book/policy down to ensuring her name and whole plan of care was updated in the care board. She gives 100% to each patient at every encounter. I was in awe of her work ethic on day one, and I started questioning if I could live up to the standards as a “Kaiser Nurse.” Yes, we know KP's expectations, but Renee goes above and beyond the standards. She has been an amazing mentor to me and a wonderful example of what a caring, compassionate nurse of integrity should be. I was trained by others after day one with Renee, and then I knew I could do this. No one is as amazing as Renee. It’s not a Kaiser thing, it’s a Renee thing.”

Another colleague wrote:
“I am honored to nominate this nurse for the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her extraordinary dedication and contributions to the field of nursing. Throughout her illustrious career, this nurse has been a beacon of excellence, consistently going above and beyond to provide exceptional care to critically ill patients. She would always tell me, president of the United States or a murderer; you’ll always get the best care from me. Her empathy, coupled with her unparalleled expertise, has not only saved lives but also provided solace and support to those in their darkest hours. She has been a true mentor and leader in the nursing community, sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience with colleagues and aspiring nurses alike. Her mentorship has nurtured countless nurses, instilling in them the values of integrity, resilience, and unwavering dedication to patient care and those who work beside her. When I was diagnosed with cancer, she would show up to my chemo sessions just to show her support. She always offered a shoulder to lean on and gave life lessons of her triumphs and mistakes and showered me humility. She stays humble, kind, and fair. With over four decades of unwavering service, she embodies the epitome of compassion, expertise, and resilience in healthcare.”

Renee is the epitome of what nursing represents. Before the pandemic, one would see Renee dressed in all white. The only thing missing was her nursing hat. Renee may be small, but she’s mighty strong. She would make sure that her patients were turned every two hours, out of bed and sitting in a chair or walking in the hallways, and that they were well pressed and tucked ready for the next shift. She’s our IV start queen and initiated intubated patients to get out of bed and into a chair. She made sure that the family understood the plan of care and education was provided to the patient and the family.

Renee is dedicated not only to the nursing profession but also to supporting and caring for our patients. She’s a grandma who cares for her grandchildren, a mom, and a loving wife.

Note: This is Renee's 2nd DAISY Award!
