As a critical access hospital manager, you wear many hats, and patient care is just part of the job. This is a part of the job where Robin excels.
Robin Meyer has been a nurse for 46 years, and she has seen many changes in nursing in her career. The changes in technology and moving to an electronic medical record are just a few. I am sure she has some great stories.
I have worked with Robin for the six years I have been here at VDMC, and what is consistent about Robin is her connection with patients. As a critical access hospital manager, you wear many hats, and patient care is just part of the job. This is a part of the job where Robin excels. She has been nominated each year for the DAISY Award, which is given to nurses who provide exceptional care for patients.
Her nursing skill and ability to show compassion are demonstrated in the nominations from patients, here are just a few examples:
• Robin was very friendly and professional.
• I would like to thank the nurse who started my IV. She was absolutely terrific! I was so scared because I am considered a very hard stick. There have been times when I was stuck up to seven times for an IV. She got it on the first try, which made me so relieved.
• Robin immediately made me comfortable, and she acted as if she had known me for many years.
• To say thank you to Robin doesn’t seem adequate to cover what her care meant to me.
• Robin has a warm, kind bedside nursing manner. She listens well, speaks gently and respectfully, and knows the reassuring power of human touch. Her humor kept nerves calm.
• Robin is an example of nursing excellence to other staff and future nursing professionals.
There is a famous quote from Maya Angelou: " As nurses, we have the opportunity to heal the heart, mind, soul, and body of our patients, their families, and ourselves. They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”
Robin’s patients didn’t forget her name, and they nominated her many times over. Because of this impact on her patients, we are awarding Robin the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award for Nursing 2024.
