The patient bonded so fast with Kayley, as most patients do with her kind and personal demeanor.
Kayley has been with us for many years, and she is all that AdventHealth stands for and what we should strive to be, not only as nurses but also as people. She is one of the kindest souls I have ever met, and I think everyone can agree.

Recently, we had a preterm labor patient come in. She came in through triage and was here on vacation with her mother. The father was back home in their home state. The patient was believed to have just had some GI upset issues, which turned out to be preterm labor that progressed quickly while here. Kayley was working triage and first encountered this patient and assisted her to a labor room quickly. As the patient began progressing rapidly, Kayley was supposed to hand off the patient to another nurse but ultimately stayed since triage wasn't busy and things were moving quickly.

The patient bonded so fast with Kayley, as most patients do with her kind and personal demeanor. In the rapid chaos of getting an IV, calling for support, managing the patient, and all things that a labor nurse is responsible for, Kayley had the time and patience to repetitively call the patient's spouse and get him on Facetime. She quickly explained to him what was going on and did everything in her power to include him in this momentous moment that he otherwise would not have been able to witness. She took photos of them together on facetime and really went above and beyond to make this traumatic moment become a positive core memory for this family. This family ended up in the NICU for a short stay and kept touching base with Kayley all the way until they were discharged home. They were so thankful for her ability to support them when they were in need, supporting them in ways that they never expected.

I am so proud to work alongside Kayley. We all know she is a phenomenal nurse and an even better person. She is the cheerleader to all staff, the party planner to make sure no one ever feels left out, and consistently puts her patients' needs above all else, no matter what is going on. She does it with such ease that you would never know the mental load of the unit that she is carrying at any given time. As I said, she is always such a positive cheerleader for the rest of us, making sure we all feel the love and support, and I think it is her turn to feel that shine! I say it all the time...if we all had a little bit of Kayley inside of us, the world would be a better place.
