She was professional, reassuring and very knowledgeable and mum felt very safe.
My 77 year old mum was brought into the Emergency Department in Letterkenny University Hospital after she had a fall at home with no recollection. She was weak, disorientated and had been diagnosed with a chest infection the day before. Mum was very unwell and sepsis was a concern. Mum was taken into RESUS and we were asked to sit in the Relatives Room. When mum was stable, Grace Ferry came and got us. She introduced herself, and reassured us that mum was comfortable. She informed us that a CT scan and chest x-ray were booked and mum would be going over to Radiology. The Emergency Department was extremely busy over the Bank Holiday weekend, in fact on Sunday the 5th of May there were 156 attendances. Resus had 2 other patients which Grace was looking after. Mum was in Resus for 10 hours. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and low blood pressure. Grace treated all the patients in the Resus calmly and with great dignity. She was professional, reassuring and very knowledgeable and mum felt very safe. Later in the day a 4th patient came into Resus and needed much attention but Grace still cared for all 4 patients. When Mum was admitted to the Ward it was late in the evening and Grace accompanied us to the Ward. She was nearing the end of her long demanding shift with no breaks, but she gave no indication of this. She gave the handover to the Ward nurse. I cannot explain how appreciative mum and us the family are to have received the special care from Grace. She was amazing. Well done & many thanks.
