Jenny embodies every aspect of what you look for in a nurse. She not only brings a smile to every one of her patient's faces, but also her co-workers. She is passionate, educated in her field, and continually goes above what is asked of her. Jenny’s patients frequently recognize her extraordinary care and have said she was the bright spot in their Cancer journey. Jenny’s connection to her patients is unparalleled and she provides patient centered care for every patient. Recently, there was a patient in the clinic that required emergency care and was unable to drive themselves to the hospital. Although there were options in which she could take herself out of the equation to transport the patient to the emergency department, Jenny coordinated transport via hospital shuttle and rode with the patient to ensure a smooth and safe transition. After being called to aid with a life threatening emergency of a patient, Jenny worked closely with the physician involved to assess the state of the patient and begin CPR. Her skills and communication with all members of the radiation team made for a seamless transition to EMS and ultimately the emergency room. After the postcode huddle, it was decided that the office needed a designated “emergency” area where all emergent supplies could be accessed quickly and easily. Jenny spearheaded education, organization, and ordering of supplies to create this area in the clinic. This will make it easier for the whole radiation team to know where emergency supplies are located to provide the best care to patients in any emergent situation. Even after being emotionally and physically exhausted from the life threatening event, Jenny comforted the patient’s daughter the next day when she came to thank the staff without question. The patient’s daughter was moved by the care and attention of the staff, especially Jenny, during this traumatic event. On this Nurses Week I can not think of anyone more deserving of this award than Jenny Persman. We are so blessed to have her on our team.
