Kara led the charge for the next 3 weeks, with daily calls to insurance, her own research, and constant updates to me on her progress.
I am blind and pregnant with my second child. I was surprised to learn that I have gestational diabetes. I knew that GD is typically monitored with a glucose monitor, which uses finger sticks and test strips. Given my disability, I knew this wasn’t a feasible option. I researched and learned that a CGM would work best for me. Kara led the charge for the next three weeks, with daily calls to insurance, her own research, and constant updates to me on her progress. It was an uphill battle, with insurance fighting back at every turn, but Kara never gave up. I’m pleased to say that I have my CGM, and my GD is being completely controlled without insulin. Kara’s determination to let me retain my autonomy over my and my baby’s health can’t be spoken of highly enough. It’s her care and dedication that makes Kara a DAISY Nurse.
